Abstract
퉁구스계 어원(Ewen) 민족의 서사이야기인 메텔레(Metele)의 구술 녹음본을 국제 표준 방식으로 전사하고 주석한 후에 이를 영어와 러시아어로 번역한 최초의 책.
이 책은 최후의 뛰어난 퉁구스계 이야기 구연자 중 한 사람인 오세니나(Osenina)가 어원어(Ewen)로 구연한 서사이야기 메텔레(Metele)를 전사하고 번역한 것이다. 이 서사이야기는 저명한 언어유형론 연구자이자 책의 저자인 말추코프(Malchukov) 자신이 1991년 현지 조사 때에 녹음한 것이다. 이것은 영어로 최초로 출판된 퉁구스 서사이야기이며, 언어학자뿐만 아니라 언어유형론 연구자나 시베리아에서 사용되는 언어에 관심 있는 일반 언어학자들에게도 흥미로울 것이다. 따라서 일일이 어휘 주석을 붙였으며 영어로 번역하였을 뿐만 아니라 어원어 공동체에서도 쓸 수 있도록 키릴 문자로도 적고 러시아어 번역도 함께 붙였다.
The volume presents a remarkable piece of Tungusic folklore, an Ewen epic tale “Metele”. The text was recorded from Darja Mixajlovna Osenina, one of the last great Tungusic storytellers, by A.L. Malchukov 1991 during his fieldwork in the village Topolinoe in the Tompo region of Yakutia (Republic of Sakha). This is the first publication of a Tungusic epic tale in English, which is intended for international readership interested in the culture and language of Ewens. The linguistic audience is not confined to experts in Tungusic languages, but also caters for typologists and general linguists interested in Siberian languages: for this reason the text is provided with glosses in accordance with typological practice. In addition to the glossed text and the English translation, the publication includes the Ewen text in the standard Cyrillic orthography along with the Russian translation intended for the use in the Ewen community.
