‘全世界文化史’를 빠르고 쉽게 이해할 수 있는 개설서
디스커버리(Discovery), 내셔널지오그래픽(National Geographic Chanꠓnel)과 히스토리 채널(History Channel)에서 세계문화유산의 소개가 많이 늘어나고 있다. 그래서 최근 세계문화유산에 관한 관심이 늘고, 또 이를 보고자 하는 여행객의 수가 급증함에 따라 관광 안내서가 아닌 관심 있는 한국인의 관점에서 세계문화사를 바라볼 수 있는 학문적·전문용 책자의 발간이 절실해졌다.
이 책은 세계 문화유산 목록(서기 1977년-서기 2019년 유네스코 세계 유산 목록 World Heritage List) 전체 1,121건 중 자연유산을 제외한 문화유산 869건과 복합유산 목록 39건, 도합 908건의 해설집으로 독자들이 알기 쉽게 꾸며놓은 단순한 ‘여행·관광 안내서’라기보다는 이 책의 부제 ‘글로벌 文化史의 理解’와 같이 유네스코에 등재된 세계문화유산의 목록과 해설을 통해 ‘全世界文化史’를 빠르고 쉽게 이해할 수 있는 개설서이며, 그 내용도 학술적 · 전문적인 관점에서 만들어졌다.
